Peck, Cyrus Wesley, 1871-1956

Cyrus Peck served in World War I. He first went overseas in 1914 as a Major in the 30th Battalion. In May 1915, he joined as a Lieutenant Colonel in the 16th (Canadian Scottish) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. As Lieutenant-Colonel, Peck commanded the 16th Battalion from November 1916 until January 1919. He was one of seven Canadians to be awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on September 2, 1918 at Cagnicourt, France (the Drocourt-Queant Line). His medals, including the Victoria Cross, are displayed at the Canadian War Museum (Ottawa, Canada). He was elected to the House of Commons in 1917 and reclaimed his seat after the war. In 1924, he became a Legislative Member for British Columbia. He later acted as aide-de-camp for two of Canada's Governors-General. He was a resident of Sidney, B.C.
