Charles Apps was the great-grandfather of George E. Apps, former Director of Buildings and Grounds at the University of Victoria. He was apprenticed, commencing October 3, 1846, to Charles Townsend Halsted, Henry Halsted, and John Halsted (Ironmongers) of Chichester, England, to learn the trade of a whitesmith.
