History

The Bastion Theatre Company of British Columbia was established in 1963 as the Victoria Theatre Studio by director Peter Mannering (born Mainwaring) in Victoria, B.C. It was registered as a non-profit society in B.C. in April 1964 as the Bastion Theatre Studio and, in 1980, the name was changed to Bastion Theatre Company of British Columbia. The Theatre provided regular theatre productions as well as a theatre school, youth tours, and a theatre-in-education program. In 1988, the Board suspended operations due to a financial crisis.
