The Committee was established on July 26, 1974 to advise Trevor Matthews, Dean of Administration, on the various types of use for the Simpson Property that the University should consider as appropriate and in keeping with Mrs. Simpson's bequest of land on Lake Cowichan. Dr. Roderick Haig-Brown was appointed as chair. The Committee recommended that the University investigate the possibility of having Bald Mountain Peninsula designated and reserved as an area set aside for environmental education and research, and that the property should remain in as near a natural state as possible.
