Born in Joplin, Missouri in 1902, Langston Hughes was a prolific American writer known best for his poetry. Recognized early on as a bright star of the “New Negro Renaissance”, Hughes became one of the dominant voices in American literature of this century and perhaps the single most influential black poet.
