Written at age 12; explanatory footnote written by Lara Gilbert, reading:
The poem "black wind" is a daydream of mine that I have when I hear South American or Italian sounding string music. It is set in Italy. The poem hints in the first and last stanzas that a person (or "onlooker") is looking out a Window to a beach where a young rider is on a black friesian horse. Note the Last paragraph where it says "The onlooker basks in wonder..." From someone's besides my own point of view, "bask" may seem a strange word to put in there, because it suggests being proud of yourself in some way. The reason for my putting it in there is because in my dream, the person looking out the window seems to be the same person as the child riding the horse, and the onlooker is looking and seeing his or her past, and is happy about it.
This daydream is, in fact, my one dream: My dream to remember my past with fond memories.
