World War I scrapbook collection

The collection consists of two volumes. The first volume is hardcover and contains clippings from Toronto newspapers. Some of the text extends into the 1930s but all of the photographs are from 1914-1919. The second volume is unbound. Its clippings are from an unknown source. Included with this volume are some loose clippings from the same sources, together with newspapers from Hamilton and Toronto.

The fonds consists of the personal diaries kept by Lieutenant Colonel Bapty from 1935 to 1942, as well as a collection of various memorandums, reports, and ephemera from this period. It also contains addresses, essays and lectures given by Bapty on military matters, including modern developments in warfare, the Scottish regiments, discipline and leadership, Pacific problems during World War II, and the objectives of military training; records of the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's), 2nd Battalion, including slate of officers, lists of exercises, correspondence and operation orders; personal records of Walter Bapty, including commissions and certificates, personal correspondence, records relating to militia staff courses and nominal roll for officers in medical courses; newspapers and clippings dealing with Bapty's participation in the Boer War and World War II, and Bapty's obituary; drawing of Bapty, photograph of Mrs. Bapty, and photographs of Bapty with the Canadian Scottish Regiment.

The manuscripts are Victoria Boritch's personal memoirs about her family and life in Russia and China, as well as vignettes of various people and events in the 1930's to 1950's. They include details of her neighborhood and schooling in Shanghai and the Russian emigre community. The photographs and photograph albums are of Victoria Boritch and her family taken in Russia, China, and Canada between ca. 1915-1952.
