Western Thimbleberry and Other Botanical Illustrations
The file consists of botanical illustrations of Western thimbleberry (Rubis parviflorus) in pencil, pen, and watercolour. One of the illustrations was used as the theme painting for "Plantae Occidentalis: 200 Years of Botanical Art in British Columbia - April 1979 to September 1980". The painting was also used for the poster and invitations to the exhibition program. Includes condition report, loan agreements, and sales history.
The file also includes four black and white prints of botanical illustrations used in Nancy J. Turner and Adam F. Szczawinski's "Edible Wild Fruits and Nuts of Canada" (Ottawa: National Museum of Natural Sciences, National Museums of Canada, 1979).
Oluna Ceska and Adolf Ceska fonds
The fonds is comprised of botanical illustrations and field journals by Oluna Ceska, with additional information contributed by Adolf Ceska. This includes, eight field journals of mycofloristic (mushroom) surveys with detailed illustrations by Oluna Ceska. Each specimen has been labelled by name, as well as by the location, date, and substrate where it was found. Additional observations include physical characteristics, smell, size, and spore size. The research focuses primarily on the southern Vancouver island region. Many of the studied specimens are from Observatory Hill, Victoria. Additional research locations include the Gulf Islands, Haida Gwaii, the BC mainland, the Yukon, Washington, and Oregon.
The fonds also consists of 9 survey reports of macrofungi on Observatory Hill that were researched and compiled by Oluna, with photos of specimens taken by Adolf. The reports describe species of fungi that were found, their location, as well as environmental factors that impact fungi growth.
In addition to the notebooks and reports relating to mushrooms, the fonds includes illustrations of flora on Southern Vancouver Island.
Oluna Ceska
Fonds consists of records documenting Gilberts thoughts and experiences from childhood to early adulthood. The fonds have been arranged in four series: 1) academic and employment records; 2) correspondence; 3) journals; and 4) unbound prose and poetry.

Series consists of materials generated by the Seaweed Inventory Project, a major research project conducted by Dr. Austin and Robert Adams, research assistant and colleague. In 1972 and 1974, the project launched a survey of the seaweed along BC coastal waters. The series is complete record of the research project and includes original data, vegetation maps, reports, films and photographs, correspondence, field notes, reference literature, and other materials reflective of the activities of the researchers and project outcomes. Series consists of four sub-series:
Fonds reflects Meigs’ artistic development, relationships with galleries, and teaching career, and consists of articles, brochures, correspondence, essays, lecture notes, notebooks, exhibit posters, photographs, scripts and other writings. Exhibitions and writings include: "The Scab Picker," "The Western Gothic," "Joy Joy Sorrow," "The Newborn," "Swoon," "Scenes for My Affection," "Purgatorio - A Drinkingbout," and "A Dense Fog."
