Actor and Actress Portfolios

Subseries consist primarily of 100 alphabetically arranged files containing portfolios of professional actors and actresses submitted by agents. BTC administrators maintained these files as a reference talent pool. All portfolio items have been name-tagged and stapled by BTC, and placed on their side between the alphabetical file dividers, and they appear in the Archive collection as received. They are also divided into 4 categories, each occupying one-half a lengthwise box, or 19cm. Each portfolio item consists of a promo photograph, a resume of acting credits, and some items include the agent's marketing stationery or folder.

Associations and Unions

Subseries consists of 5 cm of correspondence with the Canadian Actors Equity Association, Equity information circulars, and an agreement with the International Alliance Of Theatrical Stage Employees And Motion Picture Machine Operators (I.A.T.S.E.). The I.A.T.S.E. agreement, 1988, radically increased production operating costs for BTC.

Audio/Visual Media

Subseries consists of promotional copy for radio and television, a letter from the du Maurier Council for the Performing Arts regarding an audiovisual presentation, and three boxed files of recorded tapes. The recorded material includes audio tapes and videotapes of some complete shows, and tapes of radio advertisements or interviews, all used for promotional purposes. Audio-visual items prior to 1978 are located in Peter Mannering's personal records, including a 30 minute 16mm film, 1964, featuring an
overview of the Bastion Theatre Studio, and a 10 inch 8 mm film reel, with spliced content featuring
approximately 30 shows.

Auditor's Reports

Subseries consists of Auditors' Reports produced by Green, Horwood, Munro & Co., chartered accountants, with 1974, which covered the 1973/74 season, missing. Except for 1975-1976, the reports are cerlox bound with grey letter-size card covers.

Banking and Accounting

Subseries consists of bank guarantees, reconciliations, charts of accounts, correspondence, resolutions, accounting manuals and classification systems and promissory notes. Many items in this subseries relate to the Board series, as all the signatories are Board members.

British Columbia Grants

Subseries consists of grant applications and correspondence with the British Columbia Cultural Programme, Department of the Provincial Secretary, and with the Cultural Services Branch.

Campaign Management

Subseries consists of season brochures, show leaflets, press scrapbooks and public relations folios, subscription campaign literature, subscriber newsletters, new releases, marketing committee correspondence and notes, as well as sundry advertising items. Marketing Committee minutes and reports for the period 1977-1988 appear piecemeal in the subscription campaign and Committee files, all dealing with audience development. Records for the 1970s are few, and this probably reflects the lack of an entrenched marketing executive. See the Administration Series for items related to subscriber list management. See the Fundraising Series for promotional publications and photographs pertaining directly to fundraising special events. Subseries files are arranged chronologically.

Canada Council Grants

Subseries consists of federal grant applications for annual operating grants, correspondence, progress reports, applications for the Canada Council Development Fund, and the Canada Council Communications Fund, the latter facilitating travel and exchange by management. The application for a capital grant from the federal Secretary of State (file 7.1.6) pertains only peripherally to the Canada Council. The operating grant applications provide the most organized documentation for the researcher of BTC's annual operation and projected season.

Canadian Associations

Subseries consists of correspondence, minutes, reports, directories, survey forms and organizational regulations pertaining to national organization linked to theatre. Many of these organizations developed federally during the 1970s.
