The Love of the Scorching Wind

The manuscripts of Tony Connor's versions of Laszlo Nagy's poems working towards the final result published by Corvina/Oxford University Press as THE LOVE OF THE SCORCHING WIND. in 1973. In each case there is a version of the poem in holograph and further versions in typescript with holograph alterations. (With one exception). The order listed here corresponds with the order of the listed translations in Section Two.

Poetry Drafts

THIS SECTION contains more than 500 leaves of drafts, versions and/or fragments of Mr. Connor's poems other than those listed in Sections Three, Four and Five. This material commences "late 1956, early 1957" and continues up to 1968. It is mainly typewritten.

Lodgers

THIS SECTION contain drafts, versions and/or fragments of twenty-four of the forty-seven poems published by Oxford University Press in 1965 as LODGERS. Most of these manuscript are in typescript but some have holograph alterations.

Poems, Translated from the Hungarian of Laszlo Nagy

POEMS, translated from the Hungarian of Laszlo Nagy, by Tony Connor from the translations and drafts made by George Gomori. There are translations of 13 poems. Twenty leaves, 20 pages, 8 x 10 ins. typescript, with notes on the translations and the meanings, by Gomori, with metrical observations and indications and with holograph alterations and revisions.

Letters

LETTERS, mainly from George Gomori to Tony Connor. Thirteen letters commenting on Connor's translation into English verse of Laszlo Nagy's poems, discussing Nag's meanings and the imagery and thoughts in his poetry. These letters are dated from 30th. November 1969 to 28th. June 1971.
