George Randolph Pearkes fonds

The fonds consists of records relating to Pearkes' military career, 1933-1976; Pearkes' personal and family papers, 1918-1978; and reference material including newsletters, magazines and other publications, 1906-1985. Records include correspondence between Pearkes and the Royal Canadian Legion, citations and birthday congratulations, Information Documents on the George R. Pearkes Children's Foundation, and a file relating to Mrs. Blytha Pearkes' activities with the Wives of Progressive Conservative Members and Senators, including membership lists and correspondence. Fonds also includes publications collected by Pearkes, programmes for official functions, annual reports of the Union Club of British Columbia and a numerous photographs of his life as a soldier and politician.

The collection consists of notebooks containing general orders for Swinley Camp (1800) and orders for Horsham Barracks (1807) of the British Army. Also included is a collection of photographs of British prisoners of war at Stalag VIIIB, Lamsdorf, Germany. Some were used as postcards and were sent through the Prisoners of War Post (Kriegsgefangenenpost) to their destinations in England.

Also included are photocopies of Gooch's handwritten journal comprised of "A 'free run' in the balloon 'Vivid'" [October 18th 1909, 31 l.]. This account was published in The Malahat Review No. 11, 1969; and "Protagonists", his account of moving the artillery battery, of which he was the commanding officer, from England to Salonica and through the campaign there until his discharge [Oct 1915- Dec 1918, 131 l.]
