Cavenagh family fonds

The Cavenagh Family fonds is comprised of documents relating primarily to army officer and colonial governor Sir William Orfeur Cavenagh (1820–1891), who served as the last India-appointed Governor of the Straits Settlements (now Singapore and Malaysia). The collection also contains material relating to two of his seven siblings, Gordon Cavenagh and Matthew Cavenagh (d. 1864), and their father James Gordon Cavenagh (1766–1844), who was an army surgeon.

Correspondence, commissions, letter books, diaries, printed material, certificates and other documents provide insight into Sir William Orfeur Cavenagh’s military career in India and Nepal (1837 -1858) and his tenure as Governor of the Straits Settlements (1859-1867).

Material relating to Gordon Cavenagh (who served with the Bengal Infantry) and Matthew Cavenagh (who emigrated to Canada and died in 1864) can also be found in the fonds. Correspondence from 1864 to 1867 between the Cavenagh family and various correspondents (including R. Calvert) relate to Matthew Cavenagh's estate in Canada. The fonds also includes letter books of Henry William Dent dating from 1881 to 1893.

Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's) fonds

The fonds consists of records of the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's). Primarily, the fonds contains the official war diaries kept by the regiment during World War Two. The diaries contain the daily logs, intelligence reports, orders, and newsletters, as well as records of individual experiences, of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Battalions. A collection of maps and aerial photographs accompany these war diaries. The fonds also contains regimental records on training, dress regulations, personnel, the Bay Street Armoury, finances, and regimental correspondence. Additionally, the fonds includes the original manuscript and correspondence pertaining to historian Dr. Reginald Roy's book, "Ready for the Fray (Deas Gu Cath): the History of the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's) 1920-1955". Also included are the regimental publications, The Brazier, The Courtenay Camp Chronicle, and The Maple Leaf. The fonds is arranged into 22 alphabetically organized series consisting of records generated and utilized by the Canadian Scottish Regiment from its creation in 1920 to the present.

The collection consists of records documenting various branches of the Canadian Army. Collection includes photographs of parades and drills taken by the Department of National Defence; photocopies of military order of the 1st Canadian Army during World War II; copies of intelligence tests administered by the Canadian Armed Forces; correspondence, maps, daily reports and copies of morale reports of the Canadian Militia Training Centre No. 111, Gordon Head Camp, together with some photos; booklet of poems by R.W. Walter Bapty fonds

The fonds consists of the personal diaries kept by Lieutenant Colonel Bapty from 1935 to 1942, as well as a collection of various memorandums, reports, and ephemera from this period. It also contains addresses, essays and lectures given by Bapty on military matters, including modern developments in warfare, the Scottish regiments, discipline and leadership, Pacific problems during World War II, and the objectives of military training; records of the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's), 2nd Battalion, including slate of officers, lists of exercises, correspondence and operation orders; personal records of Walter Bapty, including commissions and certificates, personal correspondence, records relating to militia staff courses and nominal roll for officers in medical courses; newspapers and clippings dealing with Bapty's participation in the Boer War and World War II, and Bapty's obituary; drawing of Bapty, photograph of Mrs. Bapty, and photographs of Bapty with the Canadian Scottish Regiment.

The fonds includes trench maps and orders. The fonds also includes miscellaneous maps and research material relating to the collapse of New France. Audrey Alexandra Brown fonds

The fonds consists of manuscripts published and unpublished, which include juvenilia, poetry and story drafts, and the author's annual holograph gatherings of completed poems. The fonds includes public addresses, children's stories, periodical off prints, page proofs of A Dryad in Nanaimo, reviews, family and biographical items, photographs, certificates, recordings of poems set to music, a printers plate, biographical material, and correspondence. Correspondence includes 34 letters from former Prime Minister Robert Borden. Artwork often accompanies juvenilia verse and later children's stories; the media used include: ink on paper illustrations, pencil sketches, and watercolour drawings. Newspaper clippings include the author's columns, stories and poems. Also included are photocopies of 60 letters written by Audrey Brown to Professor Pelham Edgar (1929-47). The originals are in the Pelham Edgar collection at Victoria University, Toronto. The fonds also consists of: newspaper clippings and biographical material re Audrey Alexandra Brown and her family; correspondence between Brown and Pelham Edgar; correspondence between Brown and Earle Birney; correspondence from Martin Burrell to Pelham Edgar re Brown; manuscripts by Brown.
