Theodore Benning Monk fonds

The fonds consists of Monk's army service and course certificates and correspondence with the Monk family, records of the commander of the Gordon Head camp, and the Seattle liaison officer concerning the 5th Regiment and other army and business matters; personal records, including correspondence regarding a new Canadian flag, notes on the Monk family tree, insurance and investment records; photographs of Monk with officers and with Sir Arthur Currie, and drawings of proposed new flags for Canada.

Archibald Galbraith fonds

This fonds consists of handwritten correspondence from 1844-1884 between Archibald Galbraith and his family. The content of the correspondence from 1844-1855 mainly concern Archibald Galbraith's experiences fighting in India, and the correspondence from 1857-1884 are focused on his later family life. There are also typewritten transcription copies of the correspondence. The fonds also includes two photographs, one depicting Archibald Galbraith and one depicting his daughter, Flora McDonald. There are newspaper clippings from three editions of Glasgow Herald’s Saturday Extra in August 1971, which ran a series on the correspondences and experiences of Archibald Galbraith; and a clipping from an unidentified newspaper describing the Battle of Chillianwallah in the Second Sikh War.

The fonds consists of four volumes of photographs, the first of which also contains drawings. The drawings commence in 1846 (done by family friend) and recommence in 1884 (done by JHA and friends). The final drawing seems to be 1890. The photographs cover the period 1884-1909. They begin in England and also cover Ireland, St. Helena, South Africa, and Scotland. Some have a military setting but some are scenic and social.

The collection consists of a leather bound manuscript (probably unpublished) with the page ends gilded. All of the contents are handwritten. The contents consist of a title-page; a dedicatory epistle to the Rev. R.W. Dibdin (4 pp., both sides); and the text (36 pp., rectos only). Inscribed on the flyleaf in pencil are the words ""Presumably the original MS and unique. It is probable that this is unpublished (not listed in NUC).
