Minna Duckworth collection

The collection consists of Duckworth's notebook containing holograph copies of three completed children's stories involving Aunt Minna and Aunt Netty, plus title pages for two more stories. The first and last stories were written by "Aunt Minna" and the third one by "Aunt Netty". The second story was planned for "Aunt Ena" and the fourth for "Cousin Julia". In addition, "Winky blinky" is inscribed in pencil on the last page.

The collection consists of a sketchbook with drawings largely of churches, country houses, and other architectural subjects. It includes a few loose and pasted-in sketches at the back. There is a poem of unknown derivation under the first sketch in the book, preceded by an index to 62 sketches dated 1821-1824. Later sketches are pasted in or loose.

The collection consists of correspondence from Durrell to Alfred Perlès, William Woods, John Lehmann, Peter Russell, Tambimuttu (LD's notes on Dylan Thomas in the form of a letter), and others; also included are a corrected proof of "Balthazar"(sent to Perlès); a sketch (1959) by Eve Miller of Henry Miller, Alfred Perlès and Durrell; and, a watercolour by "Oscar Epfs" (pseud. of L. Durrell) done for a record sleeve "Songs of Greece" plus a Xmas card reproduced from the painting in 1964. Alfred Perlès later changed his name to Alfred Barret, and was often addressed by Durrell and Miller as Joe or Joey in their letters to him.

The collection consists of correspondence from T. S. Eliot, photographs, a Lecture typescript with corrections, and an annotated book. The correspondence from Eliot is to: Mme. D. Bussy (including 1 unfinished reply and 2 from TSE's secretary) [1934-56]; Miss J.S. Bussy (daughter of above) [1939-56]; T. Tambimuttu [1959]; R. Thoma [1932]; M. Wykes-Joyce re Ezra Pound [1952] ; H.M. Belgion [1940-63]; Mrs. Harold Monro (Alida) [1934-60] including 2 photos; John Lehmann [1936-52]; Anthony Cronin [1958]; Francis Berry [1953] re Herbert Read. The typscript with corrections is TSE's lecture "From Poe to Valery". Also included is Herbert Read's The Education of Free Men (Freedom Press, 1944) with approx. 200 words of Eliot's holograph annotations throughout the text.

The collection consists of a typescript (printers' copy) plus a pencil mock-up of page designs for "Collected Verse Translations"; a manuscript rough draft of the poem "The book of the South West's desire for a North Eastern resting place" , with one page signed by Gascoyne; uncorrected galley and corrected page proofs for "The Sun at Midnight"; and seven semi-abstract watercolours, all signed by Gascoyne.

Herbert Geddes collection

The collection consists of photographic glass-plate transparencies depicting life in Japan, including scenery, street scenes, workers, farming, fishing, silk production, stone carvers, wood carvers, metal workers, potters, and artists. These "Yokohama photographs" were sold to foreign tourists between about 1868 and 1912, before cameras and postcards were generally available. They have been described in: Meiji no Nihon: Yokomana shashin no sekai: Saishoku arubamu. Yokohama-shi Yurindo, 1990. (Meiji Japan in tinted album: the world of Yokohama photographs -- includes bibliographical references). The collection also consists of photograph and postcard albums collected by Herbert and Annie Geddes between 1907 and 1959.

The collection consists of letters and verse written by Gogarty to G. K. A. Bell, Ulick O'Connor, and others [some of this material used in: Ulick O'Connor's The Times I've Seen: Oliver St. John Gogarty, NY, Obelensky, 1963, (SC) PR6013 O28Z8]. The others include 2 hls to W.R.. Fearon (1937), 3 pp re evidence given by Fearon in Henry Morris Sinclair's libel suit against Gogarty; 1 hls, 1 p to the President of the Irish Free State (11.09.38); 1 tls with h. additions, 3 pp to J.M.N. Jeffries (16.05.1933); 1 p h. with an 8 line comic verse about Hitler signed and dated 13.01.44; 1 tls., 1 p to "Seamus" (13.09.49); 1 tls. 2 pp to Mr. Smart (21.04.52). Also included is a holograph verse 6 pp. "To his Extraordinary Friend George Kennedy Allen Bell about to go to Switzerland," no date, on stationary headed "The Tower, Sandycove".

The collection consists of Graves' autograph diary (1935-1939), with enclosures including letters from his children, photographs, clippings, and transcripts of poems, articles and letters; correspondence written by Graves to various people, including Isla Cameron, Selwyn Jepson, Aemilia Laracuen, Andrew Mylett, and Raphael Patai; poetry worksheets (1965-1970) and prose and poetry worksheets (1970); manuscripts including essays, reviews, forewords, prefaces, articles, lectures, and for the works "King Jesus", "The Anger of Achilles", "Hebrew Myths: The Book of Genesis", "Greek Gods and Heroes", "An Ancient Castle", "La Luna de los Perros", and "Juvenalia and Other Poems"; photographs; and drawings of Majorca by Paul Hogarth. The collection is arranged in lots as its various parts were acquired not as a single purchase but from different book dealers at different times. The collection also consists of a copy of a letter from Robert Graves to UBC chemist Lionel Harrison with sample pages from the poetry book it refers to. The collection also consists of a portrait of RG by John Ulbricht done in 1968.
