The collection consists of photographs of Chinese methods of torture and execution. Only one photograph is dated (1891). Most appear to be from the Imperial period, with a few from the early Republican period. The collection includes an envelope from King's Road Studio in Hong Kong.

The fonds also includes ephemera related to the Boys' Brigade and The Life Boys, Christian youth organizations, which Longstaff was involved in.
