Fonds consists of records relating to his career as a journalist and to his family life in Victoria. It has been arranged in two series, Autobiography and Writing. The Autobiography series consists of Archies autobiographical works, which document his service in World War I and his family life and career. It has been arranged into three sub-series: All in A Lifetime, My Life in the Army, and Travel. The Writing series consists of his published and unpublished work, and background material for it. The series shows his interest in making new generations of Victoria residents aware of their citys history and aware of World War I history. It has been arranged into two sub-series: Articles and Stories, and Broadcasts. Records include typed manuscripts, clippings of Archies published articles, photographs including photograph albums, diaries, scrapbooks, war medals, and ephemera.

The fonds includes trench maps and orders. The fonds also includes miscellaneous maps and research material relating to the collapse of New France. Also included is a staff photo of officers at Pacific Command (Work Point Barracks) when Alexander was General Officer Commanding.

The fonds consists of three scrapbooks, using the Official Telephone Directory Quebec for December 1915, June 1916, and July 1917. They document World War I, including clippings, honour rolls, correspondence, notes, obituaries, articles and columns relating to the progress of the war and, particularly, to news of men and women from Lennoxville, Quebec, and nearby areas who participated in the war.

It also contains addresses, essays and lectures given by Bapty on military matters, including modern developments in warfare, the Scottish regiments, discipline and leadership, Pacific problems during World War II, and the objectives of military training; records of the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's), 2nd Battalion, including slate of officers, lists of exercises, correspondence and operation orders; personal records of Walter Bapty, including commissions and certificates, personal correspondence, records relating to militia staff courses and nominal roll for officers in medical courses; newspapers and clippings dealing with Bapty's participation in the Boer War and World War II, and Bapty's obituary; drawing of Bapty, photograph of Mrs. Bapty, and photographs of Bapty with the Canadian Scottish Regiment.

The collection consists of notebooks containing general orders for Swinley Camp (1800) and orders for Horsham Barracks (1807) of the British Army. Also included is a collection of photographs of British prisoners of war at Stalag VIIIB, Lamsdorf, Germany. Some were used as postcards and were sent through the Prisoners of War Post (Kriegsgefangenenpost) to their destinations in England.

It contains a variety of research materials from German, Canadian, U.K and U.S. archival repositories, on U-boat activities before and during both world wars. These were used in his book "U-Boats Against Canada: German Submarines in Canadian Waters" (1985).

The collection consists of two manuscripts:-- "The Fathers' Indian Mutiny Letters, 1857 - 1859" which consists of Xeroxed, typed transcripts of letters from J. H. Wyatt, writing from India, to his wife, Jane, "Jeanie" in Aberdeen. There are 77 letters plus a note: "Maude's Battery at the Relief of Lucknow 25 Set. 1857. By Lt. Col. M.E.S. Laws. OBE. M.C. R.A. (ret'd.) Taken from the R.A. Journal, July, 1953", 6 pp. The second is "Military Memories: Part I. First World War,1914-19; Part II. Mesopotamia, Egypt, Turkey, 1919-23; Part III. Royal Air Force, 1923-28; Part IV, Second World War 1938-1945 by W. F. A. Preston, Major late Royal Artillery, Newmarket, Ontario, 1965." 137 pp.
