The fonds consists of her literary works, including manuscripts, drafts, and notes of stage plays, radio plays, short stories, film scripts, and unpublished novels; her research files; reviews of her literary and theatrical works; her business files, consisting mostly of correspondence; her personal affairs files, consisting mostly of correspondence with family, colleagues, friends, and other writers including Diana Hartog, Elisabeth Hopkins, Noel Hudson, Alison Lawrence, David McFadden, Jane Rule, Jean Rysstad, Libby Scheier, Cathy Smith, and David Watmough.

The fonds consists of typescripts of an unpublished novel "The Harmless Snake"; 3 unpublished books of poetry: "The Simon Poems", "Thy Harry's Company", "A Motley to the View"; typescript copies of five Egoyan screenplays (reworked by Bell) including: "Family Viewing" (1987) in 3 drafts; "Speaking Parts" (1989) in 5 drafts; The Adjuster (1991) 1 draft, "Exotica" (1995) 1 draft (not reworked by Bell) and "The Sweet Hereafter" (1997) in 3 drafts; some additional holograph notes and a notebook regarding the scripts and correspondence from Atom Egoyan to Bell 1985-1995 regarding the films. Additionally, there is correspondence from Irving Layton and others.

Series consists of digital records predominately pertaining to "The Mind of A Child"; "Pride and Prejudice: The Road to Human Rights and Multiculturalism in British Columbia"; "Queen’s Harbour: First Nations Education, 1860-1970"; and other related projects.

Fonds consists of research files for his private consulting work, with some material by colleagues and students from the Centre for Public Sector Studies mixed in. Most of the files contain photocopies of studies and submission by First Nations bands and organizations, government documents and reports, journal articles, brochures, and clippings. Many have been originally marked as attachments, but some of the number sequences are no longer complete. There are very few holograph markings or notes, and hardly any manuscript material.

Thirdly, there are materials relating to the Writer's Union of Canada, Writers in Electronic Residence, political press clippings, material about his libel trial, and miscellaneous printed material.

The accrual consists of a video recording of a talk given by John Di Castri. Includes a transcript of the talk and an audio recording. The talk relates to the early design concept for the planning of the UVic Gordon Head campus.

The box consists of 31 audio, data, and video discs removed from folders 7.15, 7.16, and 7.17.

The fonds consists of documents relating to Celu Amberstone's writing career. Records consist of poetry, playscripts, children's prose, notes for readings, publishing contracts, review clippings, correspondence, and acceptance and rejection letters from publishers and editors. The fonds also includes a proof copy of The Dreamer's Legacy by Celu Amberstone, and House of Commons Special Committee on the Disabled and Handicapped publication, "Native Population: Follow-up Report" (1981), which features a profile of Amberstone/Barbara Smith. The fonds is also comprised of digital text files of Amberstone's writings and e-book versions of her publications.
