Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath collection

The collection consists of letters (1960-1961) written by Hughes to Graham T. Ackroyd. There are also groupings of drafts of Hughes's "Dully Gumption's Addendum", "Fishing at Dawn", "New Moon" and "Out III: Remembrance Day". Additionally, there are drafts and fragments of other works (often on the versos of the previous drafts); several are by Sylvia Plath.

The fonds consists of correspondence received by Montague in his capacity as editor plus a few carbons of his replies. Correspondents include Peadar O'Donnell, Liam Miller, Thomas Kinsella, and some of the other contributing writers: Aidan Higgins, Pearce Hutchinson, Val Iremonger, John Jordan, James Liddy, John McGahern, Brian Moore, Richard Murphy, James Plunkett, Richard Weber, Leslie Daiken, and Thomas McIntyre. There are also some miscellaneous letters and items; including letters from Samuel Beckett and Robin Skelton. Included with the correspondence are a few holograph notes, cuttings, manuscripts, pamphlets, and ephemera relating to The Dolmen Miscellany.

Wykes-Joyce re Ezra Pound [1952] ; H.M. Belgion [1940-63]; Mrs. Harold Monro (Alida) [1934-60] including 2 photos; John Lehmann [1936-52]; Anthony Cronin [1958]; Francis Berry [1953] re Herbert Read. The typscript with corrections is TSE's lecture "From Poe to Valery". Also included is Herbert Read's The Education of Free Men (Freedom Press, 1944) with approx. 200 words of Eliot's holograph annotations throughout the text.

Included among these authors are Austin Clarke, Padraic Colum, Thomas Kinsella, and Richard Murphy. Also included are translations of earlier works in Irish and an edition of one of W. B. Yeats' works.
