The fonds consists of three scrapbooks, using the Official Telephone Directory Quebec for December 1915, June 1916, and July 1917. They document World War I, including clippings, honour rolls, correspondence, notes, obituaries, articles and columns relating to the progress of the war and, particularly, to news of men and women from Lennoxville, Quebec, and nearby areas who participated in the war.

Reginald Herbert Roy fonds

The fonds consists of records relating to Roy's university administrative activities and his research in aspects of military history, including Canadian history and Canada's involvement in World War I and World War II (particularly the Normandy campaign). Fonds includes photocopies of war diaries, files on various Canadian Army regiments and battalions (including the 31st Infantry Battalion, the 1st Battalion Regina Rifle Regiment, Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's), the Seaforth Highlanders, and the B.C. Dragoons), files on the Canadian Officers Training Corps UBC Contingent University of Victoria Detachment, files on Canadian defence and military policy, audio interviews with Canadian military officers, clippings and other material concerning South Africa and South-West Africa/Namibia, and material relating to the Fenians (1880-1881). Fonds also contains minutes, correspondence and reports relating to academic committees and associations (including the University of Victoria Alumni Association), records relating to the Canadian Confederation Centennial Committee of British Columbia Historic Commemorations Sub-Committee, and background material, notes and drafts for Roy's books. Fonds also consists of material collected by Roy including the papers (1943-1979) of John Laurie (RCAF Provost Marshall), Rev. E.G. Parker, and the Red Chevron Association of Vancouver Island. The fonds also consists of an audio cassette of music from the war years. The fonds also includes 46 issues of South African Soldier.

World War I scrapbook collection

The collection consists of two volumes. The first volume is hardcover and contains clippings from Toronto newspapers. Some of the text extends into the 1930s but all of the photographs are from 1914-1919. The second volume is unbound. Its clippings are from an unknown source. Included with this volume are some loose clippings from the same sources, together with newspapers from Hamilton and Toronto.

Florence M. Westman collection

The collection consists of a photograph album: "My Chronicle of the War," compiled by Florence Westman during and just after the First World War in Ottawa Ontario. The scrapbook contains: photographs; newspaper clippings; postcards; and items of ephemera, including, theater and concert programs, military forms, and menus. Many items relate to her family's involvement in charitable work. Others represent activities organized for the entertainment of the soldiers, including programs for sporting events, theatre and concert performances, and church services. In addition, the scrapbook contains items sent to Florence by soldiers stationed in England and at the Front, such as, photographs, tickets, and military forms, to name a few. The photographs depict soldiers, friends, and family-some formal portraits, and the rest, snapshots of picnics, skating, and additional casual scenes. Sources of news clippings are presumed to be Ottawa periodicals. Similarly, unless otherwise noted, the majority of the photographs were taken in and around Ottawa. Westman filled the scrapbook with personal annotations-often highlighting names in news articles and adding captions to photographs and other items. The Scrapbook pages follow roughly chronological order except for loose items, scans of which are shown after the attached scrapbook pages.

One soldier mentioned throughout the scrapbook is B. C. Hilliam. Bentley Collingwood Hilliam [b. 1890] a native of North Vancouver, took his theatre company on a tour throughout Canada to entertain the troops. An Ottawa news article, published in November 1916, describes him as, "official amusement director of the Canadian army." The scrapbook also includes several of his humorous cartoon sketches.
