The fonds consists of administrative files relating to the organization of the 1976 Annual Conference of the CAAS and background material relating to the 1971, 1974 and 1975 conferences, including correspondence of Professor Edgar S. Efrat, invitations and membership lists; abstracts of papers and copies of papers resented at the 1976 conference, reports, journals and other publications relating to African countries and used as background information for the 1976 conference.

The fonds consists of a compilation of west coast native legends, including some published in 1922 in Carmichael's monograph, Indian legends of Vancouver Island. The legends include: Ohyaht legends, Loquala, Seshaht and Opitchesaht legends, legends of Sproat and Great Central Lakes, and Great Central Lake by river. The manuscript also includes photographs of native artifacts, and paintings by Judith Phyllis Morgan and J. Semeyn.

Fonds consists of research files for his private consulting work, with some material by colleagues and students from the Centre for Public Sector Studies mixed in. Most of the files contain photocopies of studies and submission by native bands and organizations, government documents and reports, journal articles, brochures, and clippings. Many have been originally marked as attachments, but some of the number sequences are no longer complete. There are very few holograph markings or notes, and hardly any manuscript material.

Fonds also includes death and burial records series, 1902-1923, consisting of: medical certificates of death for Chinese persons in Victoria, BC; and burial permits for Chinese persons in Victoria, BC, including permits issued by the Chinese Benevolent Cemetery Company.
