Eve Joseph fonds

The fonds is comprised of correspondence and manuscripts relating to Eve Joseph's writing, including publications "Quarrels", "In the Slender Margin", "The Secret Signature of Things", "The Startled Heart", in addition to essays, unpublished poetry, and materials relating to literary awards and festivals.

Born digital files are comprised of textual records, photographs, and audio files. The text file (.doc) "entries & observations" is working notes and other textual files (.doc) relate to Joseph's speech and reading delivered at the Griffin Poetry Prize event. A folder "photos" includes photographs (.jpg) from the Griffin Poetry Prize and a folder "book launch" includes photographs (.jpg) of various launches and events for "The Startled Heart" and "Quarrels." Audio recordings (.m4a, .mp3.) relate to the Griffin Poetry Prize as well as Ian Brown introducing Joseph at a reading (.wav).

Military Oral History collection

The collection consists of records generated by a number of different sources that have been brought together as a collection. The Social Sciences Research Project (1970-75) includes 29 interviews (and transcripts) with Major General The Hon. G. R. Pearkes and significant associates of Pearkes. They cover Pearkes' military career in both World Wars, his political career, particularly as Minister of Defence, and his role in the office of Lieutenant Governor or B.C. (1960-68). Over a number of years, subsequent to the Pearkes interviews, Dr. Roy commissioned several senior students to interview 185 former military personnel, Canadian and Allied. These were funded by the Department of National Defence. The collection offers personal accounts of action in the Great War and in most theatres of the Second War in which Canadians participated, as well as post war peace-time activities in NATO. When Dr. Roy retired in 1988 he gave a number of guest lecture tapes and some C.B.C. military oral history tapes. In 1982, Dr. Barnett B. Singer, a sessional lecturer, donated one interviews with a holocaust survivor, Mr. William Jacobs of Victoria. In 1983, Dr. David Stafford donated nine research interviews (and transcripts) for a book that he was doing on clandestine operations in World War II. In 1984, Elizabeth Hazlitte, a nurse at Victoria's, Veteran's Hospital, gave her interviews with six Great War veterans which she had completed on an L.I.P. grant. In 1990, Robert Winkenhower gave an interview of Olga Ghosh about the experience of a Jew living in Germany in the 1930's (accessioned 1994). In 1993, Cmdr. Hal Lawrence, a naval historian, donated copies of cassettes, summaries and transcripts of 120 interviews with retired Canadian navy personnel. These interviews were conducted between 1980 and 1990 under contract with DND. In 1993, B. Marshall, through Dr. Reg Roy, donated a cassette of an episode of Lister Sinclair's CBC radio programme called "Ideas". The episode was called "A Sense of War" and contains the experiences of Nursing Sisters in W.W. II. In 1997, Dr. Shawn Cafferky donated 22 tapes and transcripts of interview on Naval aviation also commissioned by D.N.D. Directorate of History and Heritage. Interviews with Lt. Col. John Edmonson, M/Gen. Norman Ross and Mr. Geo. Kidd (Major) were added in 2007. "War Stories: A Life Remembered", an audio recording of Thomas Miller's experiences in the Canadian Army during World War II on 2 compact discs was donated in 2008, as well as an interview with Ross Purse describing conditions in Oeyama Camp in Japan during World War II. Will Pratt's interviews of Japanese-Canadian veterans were added in 2009. An interview with LCol Cyril Neroutsos was added in 2010.

The fonds consists of records produced by and about Pnina Granirer throughout her career as an artist and a writer. Ephemeral material include posters, cards, pamphlets, and brochures of exhibition invitations and advertisements of Granirer’s work. Granirer also accumulated published materials, such as magazines and books where her work was featured. Photographic and film records relate to Granirer’s exhibition openings and interviews. Textual records include interviews, artist statements, texts, and lectures, as well as guestbooks with exhibition visitors’ comments and letters. The fonds includes 18 notebooks with Granirer’s diaries and sketches. Correspondence records include financial documents and letters relating to exhibition donations, transactions, and sales. Entire published works about and by Granirer can be found at the University of Victoria Libraries catalogue. A flash drive of 2.58GB of materials includes biographical information, as well as PowerPoint slideshows of samples of Granirer’s artworks.

The fonds consists of records documenting the establishment and development of the Centre. The chair's records include correspondence, minutes, terms of reference, and financial records. Material documenting the various research projects supported by the Centre include notes, rough drafts, interviews, photographs, newsclippings, index cards, authority files, questionnaires and coding sheets for projects of: R.H. Roy (research on George Pearkes), Sydney Jackman, Donald W. Munro, Daniel Koenig, John A. Munro (research on H.H. Stevens), D.C. Pitt, Clyde R. Pope, T. Rennie Warburton, Alan Gowans, and Leonard Thornton.

The university employment series includes curricula vitae, job applications, and self evaluation files which document Roberts employment history and her publications and committee work, etc. The university teaching series includes course outlines, take home exams, and student handouts which shed light on her approach to teaching. The grant applications and publications series together provide an overview of the range and direction of Roberts' research interests. While most of the series are based on record type, the Gertrude Richardson research and Leicester Peace Society Research series are arranged by subject and contain correspondence and grant applications; the Gertrude Richardson Research series also contains conference papers. The Women's movement and Peace movement series both contain correspondence, although some correspondence pertaining to them will be found in the miscellaneous and family correspondence series. While the miscellaneous and family correspondence series consist almost entirely of inward correspondence, both contain a few printouts of e-mail correspondence or letters from Roberts which shed light on her daily life and research projects. The Canadian Women Peace Activists series contains interviews about and with Canadian women who were peace activists before 1960.

Elders Council for Parks in British Columbia / EKOS Communications video history collection

Collection consists of video history interviews with park pioneers, as well as some events, created by EKOS Communications in partnership with the Elders Council for Parks of British Columbia [http://www.elderscouncilforparks.org] to commemorate the 100th anniversary of BC Parks in 2011.

The Elders Council is an independent society, whose members are retired parks system employees and conservation advocates who have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to parks and protected areas in BC. EKOS Communications first launched in 2005 as ekostv.com with the goal of creating Canada's first independent new media channel. ekostv was re-envisioned in 2007 as EKOS Communications, Inc. which providing environmental education and communication services. Clients included Parks Canada, BC Parks, Natural Resources Canada, Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Metro Vancouver, and Union of BC Municipalities. EKOS Communications™ services included project management, video production, audio production, web design and development, community animation, group process and facilitation, research and writing, communications strategy, communications consultation, environmental education, curriculum design, development and evaluation.

In December 2010, EKOS Communications Inc. dissolved and was re-formed as EKOS Communications under the sole proprietorship of creator, president and executive producer Rick Searle. As of April 2011, other chief officers of EKOS Communications included Creative Director/Writer Starr Munro, Editor/Shooter Richard Fulop, and Webmaster Prarie Blake. EKOS Communications™ stated mission is "to assist with the rapid advancement of ecological literacy and sustainability through environmental education and communication; Combining video, audio, animation, and print with new media innovations, EKOS Communications connects people more deeply with each other to work together for the betterment of the planet."

Standard questions were used in most of the interviews and included dates of employment/association with BC Parks, parks worked in, greatest challenges, accomplishments and regrets, lessons learned, hopes for provincial park system today and mentors.
