Wendy Morton fonds

The fonds consists of poetry and other writing works by Morton, video cassettes, CDs, and photographs from writing workshops that Morton attended, notebooks containing correspondence, planning, and writing. The Elder Project was a job that Morton worked on that involved going around to various First Nations communities to collect stories and poems from First Nations Elders as they shared their stories with their younger generations. The collected poems were then printed into small booklets. The fonds consists of the manuscripts and transcripts of these booklets, some of the booklets themselves, as well as permission release forms.

The collection consists of 3 accessions:
Acc. 1991-076 comprises: a tls from "your fellow writer, Nellie L. McClung" to George Bugnet, Dec. 9, 1931, mentions sending a copy of her "new book"; a Christmas broadsheet poem signed "R. W. and Nellie McClung" with a printed photo attached of the McClung's titled "At the Great Divide, August 1932" and 6 newspaper clippings.
Acc. 1996-016 comprises items from J. and D. Gilbert's collection from Nellie McClung's personal library and papers (see note). Included are: a Christmas card with holograph verse to "Mr. and Mrs. McClung" signed James L. Hughes; a poem clipping titled "To My Dear Friends: Who made my 75th Birthday the Happiest of my my long list of Birthdays" with Hughes's comment, "Nearly nine years ago"; a 1 page hls ,"Dec. 28.", to McClung from Hughes; a 1 page holo. Christmas poem by Hughes inscribed: "Nellie McClung, Christmas 1926"; a 2 page hls to Nellie McClung from Hughes dated Feb. 11; a 1 page typed poem titled "Ten Years Ago" dated Bruges, July 27, 1925 by Hughes; a 1 page hls, Jan. 8, 1940, to Nellie McClung from Emile Vaillancourt; a 1 page reprint from The Liberal Advocate, Toronto, August 1940 by Emile Vaillancourt with holograph presentation from author; a 1 page tls, August 14, 1926, to Nellie McClung from W. Acc. 2000-086 consists of a Mar. 22nd [1939?] hls, "Nellie L. McC." with holo note, to Isabel Mitchell accepting an invitation to visit, and a June 24, 1939 tls from McClung to Isabel Mitchell referring to her brother's book. Her brother, Rev. Thomas H. Mitchell, wrote "The Drama of Life" (1922) with a preface by McClung.

The collection consists of a Xerox copy of the original typescript for projected publication, with a letter dated October 10th, 1969, (1 p. part holograph, signed) from the author to Alan Brilliant (Unicorn Press) about the possibility of publication of "The Man with seven toes" in the U.S. There is a carbon copy of Alan Brilliant's reply.

Marilyn Bowering fonds

The fonds consists of a photocopied typescript of Bowering's play "The Temple of the Stars" (ca. 1996). She based the character of Katherine Maltwood "on her work as a sculptor and her discovery of the Glastonbury "Temple of the Stars"". This play was performed at Kaleidoscope Theatre in 1996. Also included are a playscript and worksheets of "Anyone Can See I Love You" (1987); correspondence and playscripts of "Grandfather Was a Soldier" (1987); and typescripts and drafts of her novel "To All Appearances a Lady" (1989); plus an item of correspondence re: reissuing some of her published articles.

The fonds consists of records relating to Peter's teaching and research activities, including research grant applications, letters of recommendation and lists of bibliographic citations; notes, outlines, fragments, notebooks, manuscripts and galleys for "Along That Coast", "Take Hands at Winter" and "Runaway", as well as unpublished novels by Peter and correspondence with publishers regarding "Along That Coast" and "Runaway". The fonds include a small amount of material relating to Professor Peter's research and teaching activities, but primarily they document his writing activities, particularly the preparation of his novels, as well as unpublished works of fiction and essays.

The fonds consists of personal, business and publishing correspondence (1953-1982), and also five handwritten letters to Arthur William Wallace (1931-1978); typescripts of O'Hagan's unpublished autobiography, proposed novels and unpublished short stories and articles; notes, variant drafts and page proofs of "The School-Marm Tree"; photographs of O'Hagan and other O'Hagan family members and friends; published articles about O'Hagan and his work, programmes of ceremonies, greeting cards, and bibliography of O'Hagan's works; audio tape interview with O'Hagan, conducted by E.J. Hart in Victoria. Also included is a small amount of Margaret Peterson (O'Hagan) material, consisting of a typescript of "My Life With Howard O'Hagan" and manuscript poetry drafts.
