Alan Drengson fonds

The fonds consists of 3 drafts of manuscripts, and 11 prints. The manuscripts include: "The Adventures of Felix," 1993; an unedited version of "Practice of Technology," 1995; and "Wise dwelling: transitions from modern to ecological paradigms: narrative connections to harmony, diversity and depth," 1999. The prints were designed by Jenus Friesen for Drengson's publication Doc Forest and Blue Mountain Ecostery, published in 1993.

The fonds also includes several files on the Sierra Club, 1971-83; and the Okanagan Similkameen Parks Society, 1966-69; and 4 chalk drawings of landscapes.

Marine Environmental Science collection

Collection consists of rare and difficult to obtain limited distribution documents relating to specific case studies, most of which have been printed and distributed by governments and industrial agencies. They generally contain environmental data, and may have interpretive sections. Some documents contain copies of government permits and associated correspondence. The collection is arranged in five primary research subjects: Pulp and Paper Mills, Toxicolocy, Victoria Sewage, Coast and Island Mines, and Regional Collections. Each subject is divided into case studies. Within each case study, documents are arranged in alphabetical order by author.

Fonds consist primarily of the correspondence and manuscripts of Dr. Michael Waldichuk specific to environmental issues on the Canadian Pacific coast. The fonds consist of four series: Personal, Cine-film, Pacific Coast Entire, and Pacific Coast Regions. The Personal series contains correspondence, records containing information about Dr. Waldichuk’s academic and professional career, and a bibliography of publications written by Dr. Waldichuk. The Cine-film series consists of 275 metres of film documenting survey procedures, particularly at Crofton Pulp Mill. The Pacific Coast Entire series consists of documents relating to the Pacific Coast as a whole. Pacific Coast Region consists of documents organized into 15 sub-series identified by environmentally distinct regions. The fonds also contains publications received by Dr. Waldichuk in the course of his activities.

The fonds documents the career of Edward “Ted” Griffin, covering his work as founder and manager of the Seattle Aquarium, his experience as an orca capturer, and his writing ventures with magazine articles and a full-length book. The collection includes personal and professional correspondence, drafts of publications, documents regarding Washington State’s marine mammal legislation, publications written by Griffin or featuring him, financial reports, research notes and reports, and promotional material surrounding Namu. Major topics covered in these papers include the passage of the marine mammal capture ban in Washington in 1971, the capture and ensuing stardom of Namu, Griffin’s book, Namu: Quest for the Killer Whale, aquarium research and planning, and marine mammal research. Forms of materials include correspondence, reports, publications, manuscripts, clippings, and photographs.
