The collection consists of photographs created from different processes between the 1870s and 1920s. The older photographs are mostly unidentified portraits with the more recent photographs including scenery and landscapes. Some of the locations photographed are identifiable and include Niagara Falls, Kamloops, Hamilton, Duluth, the Steamer United Empire, and Del Rio Orchard in Oregon. Also includes photographs and photograph albums illustrating historical photograph techniques, including daguerreotype, tin type, and albumen prints.

Also includes manuscripts and transcripts of poems, short stories, essays, as well as handwritten brainstorming notes written on hotel paper pads and airplane bags. Includes book reviews for the Times Colonist, correspondence and work regarding the Al Purdy-Doug Beardsley Papers collaborative work. Also includes handwritten journals kept by Beardsley from approximately 1969-2017. Additionally includes brochures and ephemera collected while travelling for inspiration, and material for a manuscript about Samuel de Champlain.
