Barbara C. McKenzie was a warden in the Victoria Civilian Protection Area, 1941; a volunteer for Civil Defence Canada in 1945; took a course in anti-gas protection at the Gordon Head Camp, Victoria, in 1942; took several courses in first aid and home nursing from the Victoria Branch of the Canadian Red Cross Corps, 1942-45; and qualified as an instructor in Civil Defence rescue operations at Arnprior, Ontario, in 1955.
