History

The New Bastion Theatre Company began operations in April 1990, building on the tradition and foundation established in the community by the original Bastion Theatre. Support came from local businesses, past subscribers and supporters, B.C. Cultural Services, Canada Council, and the four core municipalities of Greater Victoria. It suspended operations in January 1996 due to a financial crisis. Douglas Riske worked as Artistic Director during the five years of operations. The mandate of the company was to produce plays from the classical and modern repertoire in order to nourish the spirit and enhance the cultural environment of the community.
