Nikola Pavelic was born October 15, 1906 in Zagreb, Croatia to Dr. Ante Pavelic and Olga Dosen. Pavelic held a Doctor of Law degree from the Sorbonne in Paris. In the 1940’s Pavelic lived in New York City and had an import-export business. In the late 1940s Pavelic met Canadian artist Myfanwy Spencer and they married in 1948. In 1950 Myfanwy gave birth to their daughter Tessa, in Victoria, B.C. Tessa was born with a disability, and the Pavelics moved back to New York for her schooling and spent summers in Victoria. They permanently moved back to Victoria in 1969. Two years later, the Victoria artist group the Limners formed; Nikola was the Treasurer. Nikola Pavelic died in December 21, 1996 in Saanichton.
