History
Robert Michael Pearce was born in England and died in Victoria. He came to Canada in 1947, attended McGill University and the University of British Columbia, worked at the Chalk River Laboratories from 1952 to 1963, and was appointed Professor of Physics at the University of Victoria in 1963. Pearce was actively involved with TRIUMF (Tri-University Meson Facility), which was established in 1968 as a research centre devoted to building and maintaining a cyclotron in Vancouver with the cooperation of the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and the University of Victoria.
