Shawn Cafferky received his B.A. in history from the University of Victoria in 1987, and his M.A. in 1989. He then earned his Ph.D. in history at Carleton University in 1996. He was employed as an historian with the Directorate of History and Heritage, Department of National Defence, Ottawa, from 1990-1996, where he was employed on the naval team that is currently writing the official history of the Royal Canadian Navy. Since 1997, he has been teaching as a Sessional Lecturer in the Department of History at the University of Victoria, and also, in both the History Department of Malaspina University College and the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC). His research interests include: Post-Confederation Canadian History, Military and Naval History, and European Diplomatic/International Relations, 1850-1950. He died suddenly in 2008.
