Camilla Georgiana Sykes (nee Russell) was the daughter of Sir Thomas Wentworth Russell (Russell Pasha), the wife of Christopher Hugh Sykes, and was secretly engaged to John Betjeman from 1930 to 1931. The engagement was ended by her father who shipped her off to Egypt. Her father, Russell Pasha, was a police officer in the Egyptian service.
