History
Robert Sakowski (b.1937) Newark, New Jersey, studied at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts (1961-63); Maryland Inst. College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland, where he graduated with his BFA (1963-65), MFA (1965-67); Scholarship to the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts; and fellowships to Maryland Inst. College of Art (1966) (1967). He came to Canada in 1967 to become an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba School of Art. Known for his paintings originally described as "hard-edge colour field painting" and drawings. He works with acrylic on canvas, graphite on paper, silkscreen, and assemblage sculpture composed of mixed media, (plastic materials and other items enhanced with colourful lighting effects). He has exhibited extensively in the United States as well as Canada. He is represented in the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts; WAG; CC Art Bank,
Ottawa and The U. of Manitoba.
