Administrative history

The University Librarian's Office was established in 1963 to manage the University Libraries. The McPherson Library, the Curriculum Laboratory and the Map Library were opened on November 14, 1964. In 1974, the Diana Priestly Law Library was established. The University Librarian reports to the Vice-President Academic. Incumbents include: Dean W. Halliwell 1963-1988; Marnie Swanson, 1988-2011; Jonathan Bengtson 2012-present.

The fonds consists of the following series: General office files, 1960-96; Budgets, 1946-88; Gifts, 1955-92; Division Heads' minutes,1966-89; Senior Management Group minutes, 1989-91; Departmental reports, 1964-92; and Annual Librarian's reports, 1951-76.
