History

In 1967, the University of Victoria began offering a B.A. in the new Division of Music (in School of Fine Arts), headed by Gerald M. Hendrie. In1967 the Division established an affiliation with the Victoria School of Music (later called the Victoria Conservatory of Music) , headed by Robin Wood, to provide instrumental and voice tuition and performance opportunities to students. The Division became the Department of Music within the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1969, with Phillip T. Young as chair. In 1979, the Department changed its name to the School of Music.
